"Trust in dreams, for in them is hidden the gate to eternity" - Khalil Gebran
The Story of Amal
'Amal' tells the story of an attractive young woman who wants to escape from the violent grips of her abusing and insanely possessive husband, but it turns out that her freedom carries a very high price.
Best Screenplay Award
The screenplay was developed at the Cinephilia Productions Screenwriting Lab for Shorts in 2013, where it was awarded the Best Screenplay Award by a Jury selection committee in New York, representing Beirut. This Award is offered to the screenplay that shows most originality and creativity, to support and develop new daring voices in film-making from the MENA region. The movie is going to be produced and distributed by Cinephilia Productions.
My intention behind this story was to depict the alarming reality of domestic violence that occurred in Lebanon, and to raise awareness about this based on the collection of true stories and testimonials. Following the absurd serial murders of a few victims, I was constantly haunted by their respective stories and deaths. There are thousands of cases of abuse around us every day, but no one knows about them.
Most importantly, present laws do not sufficiently protect these women from gender-based violence as well as marital rape. And I think this is a shame. Through this film, I want to highlight the vicious cycle of silence and victimization that these women are trapped in. Also, this movie aims to advocate the empowerment of womankind, encourage them to stand up for themselves, in order to become leaders and masters of their own destinies.
Cinema being one of the most powerful weapons of expression, and an influential export of ideas and messages, I decided to bring these stories to life through moving images.
This movie is made as a tribute to all these women, young or old, battered or raped, physically beaten up or psychologically humiliated and - hopefully, will contribute to making a change.
How will the fund be distributed?
. Production: Crew & cast fees, equipment rental fees, art department & catering.
. Post-production: editing, sound design, sound mixing, music, coloring & packaging.

Visual storytelling is one of the most stimulating tools to make an impact, to move people intensely and to make a change in this world.
This silence and imprisonment is mainly provoked by the will to protect the image of their family, the archaic norms and traditions of our society, the backward civil code, the absence of a coherent protective law. Still, these women should also be aware that there is room for hope, and that is what this movie is about. Indeed, they need to revolt against a painful reality manifested in the oppression of a patriarchal society, buried in the maze of taboos and traditions.
Other Ways You Can Help
Do you believe in the idea of the project and would like to support it? Even if you can't contribute, you can still help by sharing it and spreading the word about the film - and beyond that the cause of these women. This would already be of a great support and means a lot to me.
Be Part of it.
