In life I believe we have 3 Choices to deal with injustice: 1.Turn your head, 2.Cry or
3. Find a (practical) way to make a difference. Cairo Phoenix is about that 3rd choice.
The pictures below where taken during the first Cairo Phoenix
for people working or interested in supporting women who have gone
through sexual assault. We (around 20 ppl) gathered with the purpose to
connect, map out what's there and what's missing and to help make
stronger connections so we can all together provide a more holistic

with the purpose to develop a program that will help support women that have come across sexual violence. Cairo Phoenix aims to create a journey for women to explore different creative ways of self-expression that can help trying to overcome some of these sexual violent experience(s). In 2013 we started our weekly Cairo Phoenix meetups but now we would like to see Cairo Phoenix rise further by organizing 3 co-creativity retreats for women in Egypt.
What We Need & What You Get:
We are planning 3 Co-creativity retreats for women in Egypt.
And for that we need to arrange for:
* Accomodation for 12 women during these 3 retreats.
* Transportation to and from the retreat location.
* Art supplies.
* Promo materials + media team to document events.
* Professional trainers and facilitators.
* Reunion event (venue, catering, supplies)
I strongly believe and have experienced that expression through art in
whatever form can be very helpful during a healing process. Everyone has
unique ways of self-expressing but some people might not have found
their own favorite medium.
So that’s why the idea came about to start
a proactive & self supporting & exploring community to connect
with other women who are in the process of healing and together embark
on a creative journey.
The feeling of safety and supported while not being rushed is I think essential for healing in the first place. Just something as simple as sincere attention from another person can make all the difference. During these modern 'fast times' with all the online communications it is sometimes hard to find that, Other than perhaps some close friends and family (if they are around). Some things might just be easier to share with a group of people outside that close circle, People who are able and willing to take the time to listen to you because they understand what you are going through and can inspire you with their own stories.That's where the retreats come in, where we can provide a safe, creative & inspiring space for women to feel free to explore their own creative self-expression.
