HOLY LEBANON is a travel e-guide promoting religious-based tourism and supporting the sustainable development of local communities across Lebanon.
Holy-Lebanon introduces Lebanon as never seen before, as an attractive destination full of interesting religious sites to discover from different religious communities, rituals to experience and events to share. It creates awareness in both Lebanese people and foreigners about the enormous variety of sacred sites open and attractive to tourists that you will not find in classical guidebooks, from the foremost pilgrimage sites to the small, historical chapels in picturesque villages. In addition, some sites host special religious celebrations for events like the feast of the patron saint (for Christian sites) and special Muslim ceremonies, which are indicated in the information on each site. This unique feature associated with also culinary traditions gives the opportunity to take part in the joy, unity, and memory of the community in an authentic way.
Today, it is certainly the most comprehensive database for multi-faith religious tourism in Lebanon.
Eager to position Lebanon as a premier religious destination, the Ministry of Tourism and other related government agencies are working hand-in-hand with the private sector to develop and promote this niche tourism as the project of the Cultural Religious Tourism in Lebanon.
Thousands of religious attractions, rituals, events and service providers all around Lebanon and from different religious and social communities are listed in this guide.
We invite you to visit this beautiful country and experience for yourself the splendid inter-religious solidarity, as well as the natural dialogue observed at religious sites.
This guide will be your rich, practical and comprehensive tool to plan religious tours, organize pilgrimages and experience Lebanon at its finest, and in a sustainable way.
Lebanon is a fascinating and confusing nation, steeped in history, a land of rich natural beauty, breathtaking sceneries, and cultural diversity. It is the only country in the Middle East where one can find lifestyle, nightlife, and entertainment facilities like those encountered in Western countries, and also enjoy oriental traditions deeply rooted in society.
What makes this country different from others in the region are the short distances between the mountains, the sea, and the green landscapes amid deserted plains.
It is its location which has always given it such key strategic importance throughout history as a part of the Fertile Crescent. All across the country are historical and archaeological sites, reflecting ancient and modern world history, including Canaanite, Phoenician, Persian, Hellenic, Roman, Byzantine, Umayyad, Abbasid, Crusader, Mameluke, Ottoman ...
Watch the 4 minutes movie (in Arabic) I produced to introduce religious tourism in Lebanon!
The Middle East is part of the Arab world, which is a hub of religions… Islam is often automatically associated with this geographical area, but many faiths coexist in this part of the world. It was the cradle of all the great monotheistic religions. Two large, major religious poles exist: Jerusalem, revered by all three monotheistic religions, and Mecca for the Muslims. In parallel to these two poles there is a dense network of holy places dedicated to saints and prophets… The pilgrimage is a fundamental concept of Arab-Muslim civilization. Pilgrimages have long been and remain one of the main causes of mobility in the Arab world.
The general aim of this project is to relocate Lebanon on the international religious, inter-religious, spiritual and faith tourism map inviting thousand, millions of visitors to experience a sacred journey.
What we need
Our goal is to raise enough money to develop and launch Holy Lebanon Mobile App.
We actually need 35 000 USD to pay for the App developers, editing, hosting and to organize the launching event of the App.
We didn't receive any financial support from any governmental institution or other parties so far.
We are planning to organize a launching event of the 16th of November, the International Day for Tolerance.
We hope you will all be able to join! Details, location and schedule will be sent to you later on.
With the money collected we will be able to:
1. Complete the design and the development of Holy Lebanon Mobile App.
2. Cover the costs of maintenance and web administration of the App for a year and the expenses associated to its promotion.
3. Organize the launching event of the App
4. Update the information regularly on the App.
