What is Lebanon Support
Lebanon Support is an independent, non-profit, information and research centre for and about civil society.
Established in 2006, Lebanon Support was registered as a National Non-Governmental Organisation in 2008. We aim to be a space for reflection and discussion bridging between researchers, experts, NGO practitioners, activists, and the broader public in order to develop action oriented knowledge about civil society and public action issues.
Our work is driven by 3 core objectives:
• Strengthening the network of civil society actors in Lebanon
• Disseminating information and research for a more efficient and effective civil society
• Producing research and knowledge products (reports, mappings, etc.) and creating spaces for discussion of civil society issues.
What is Daleel Madani?
Launched in the aftermath of the July 2006 war in an attempt to provide a space for collaboration between the various civil and civic initiatives at the time, Daleel Madani is an online portal for civil society actors in Lebanon. As the 1st programme developed by Lebanon Support, Daleel Madani is dedicated to promoting accessible information about civil society, in addition to strengthening civil society cooperation, and enhancing the sector in Lebanon.
Daleel Madani currently has a directory of more than 1,300 civil society actors, including collectives, national civil society organisations, international NGOs, UN agencies, donor organisations, and private sector firms working towards the public good.
It is the most regularly updated and used site by civil society organisations in the country, and gathers over a million page views per month.
Through Daleel Madani, civil society organisations and actors have a space where they can register and independently share and disseminate resources, projects, call for proposals, events, press releases, and job vacancies.
Likewise, individual users are provided with a portal where they can stay informed about civil society and public action as well as search for suitable jobs in which they can in turn benefit society.
Why does Daleel Madani have to be improved?
Daleel Madani is the no.1 online portal for civil society actors at large in Lebanon, is visited over 1 million times per month, and is ranked between the 100 most visited websites in Lebanon overall.
However, have you noticed that the Daleel Madani website has been crashing? Did you notice that sometimes pages are not loading properly? That’s because the platform used for web development and content management of Daleel Madani is outdated and should be upgraded. To be technical, Daleel Madani is currently on the server Drupal 6 and should be upgraded to Drupal 7 in order to fully secure the website.
We need to keep improving Daleel Madani in order to cater to the increasing needs of our users and audience, and grow our impact.
Lebanon Support has big plans for Daleel Madani! These include the redesign and restructuring of the portal, improving the services already provided on the website, and also introducing new ones. The forecasted improvements and additions will be much more user friendly and efficient.
Organisations on Daleel Madani will not only be able to use the portal in a faster and more efficient manner, but will be able to promote their overall work by posting their projects, research, and events on an updated and modern platform created especially with them in mind.
Individuals looking to contribute to their society will have easy access to all information relevant to Lebanon’s vibrant civil society on one platform, and can look for jobs to suit their background. More generally, Daleel Madani is one of the greatest ways to discover new and diverse opportunities in Lebanon, whether that be in the form of a training or workshop opportunity, a call for tenders, a scholarship, or more.
No matter what individuals or organisations are using Daleel Madani for, we are committed to enhancing their user experience on our portal through faster and expanded services! All of this contributes to enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of civil society in Lebanon.
Lebanon Support has always ensured that Daleel Madani remains a self sustainable platform for and about civil society, completely independent from external donors. For years, it remained completely run by volunteers.
Today, we need you to ensure together that Daleel Madani remains online at the service of Lebanon’s civil society. Daleel Madani is freely accessible, does not feature online advertisements, and we would like to keep it this way.
What will the funds raised cover?
Milestone 1: 4,000USD is 10% of our overall goal and will help us cover basic technical maintenance costs .
Milestone 2: 10,000USD covers migration of data to new platform (drupal 7), ensures Daleel Madani doesn’t crash anymore and is always accessible.
Milestone 3: 25,000USD covers basic, more user friendly redesign and restructuring of the portal, including the improvement of search filters and tools for both organisations and individual users.
Milestone 4: 40,000USD covers additional features and services, and helps sustain the platform and keep it operational for one year, including one part-time dedicated staff member, who will be able to respond quickly to all emails and request regarding Daleel Madani.
