In Lebanon a large number of vulnerable children, mostly girls, suffer from all forms of violence and exploitation. Similarly, marginalized women such as prostitutes and exprisoners are rejected from their family and community. These beneficiaries are both in need of a safe environment far from the source of danger. With the shelter Dar Al Amal wants to provide this need. The few existing shelters are not enough to welcome the mentioned categories and never accept them in emergency. This story is an example for the urgent need of a shelter:
N. is a 16 years old girl who had a bad relationship with her family. That’s why she ran away from home. Unfortunately one day, N. met a man who forced her into prostitution. After three months N. finally escaped from him and returned home. However the family could not accept her after she had brought shame upon the family. Dar Al Amal tried to find a shelter to protect the girl; meanwhile it provided psychological help and family follow-up. But it was not possible to find a safe place for N., because the available shelters in Lebanon could not receive her.
Our Next Step
Dar Al Amal bought a property in a very calm environment to become the shelter. The renovation started months ago and we already pursued to finance most of it. Only a small amount of money is still needed to finish the renovation. After that we will be able to open the shelter as soon as possible.
What Else Do We Do?
Until now Dar Al Amal runs three different projects:
- two day centers for children,
- one day center adressed to young girls and women and
- one social rehabilitation and reintegration project in women's prisons.
Dar Al Amal works together with national and international partners, such as the Lebanese Governement, Diakonia and AirFrance etc.
There are no updates for this project yet.
