Ali M. M. is an 11-year-old boy from an Egyptian father and a Lebanese mother. Ali was diagnosed with congenital heart disease (CHD) since he was born in Egypt - Coarctation – CoA (the narrowing of the aorta) and Ventricular Septal Defect – VSD (Defect in wall separating the two chambers). Ali underwent a surgical repair of CoA when he was 4 years old in Egypt. The family of Ali moved to Lebanon 6 years ago. Ali is currently living with his mother and sister who is 16 years old in the mother’s family residence. Ali and his sister attend a public school and the mother became recently employed and earns a salary of 750,000 L.L. ($500)
The family currently has no contact with Ali’s dad and the mother is the only supporter to the family.
Ali is in urgent need to undergo an open heart surgery for closure of the VSD. The estimated cost of the surgery is $25,000, noting that Ali has no means of medical coverage.
We are appealing to the generosity and the good hearts of community members to help Ali proceed with his much needed surgery and eventually lead a normal life.
Ali is an eligible candidate fro Brave Heart Fund support.
The Brave Heart Fund was established at the Children’s Heart Center, American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC) in November 2003 by volunteers touched by Congenital Heart Disease (CHD). The Fund’s goal is to help cover the cost of surgeries and hospitalization for needy children suffering from CHD and provide the children of Lebanon with the best possible medical care without any form of discrimination.
Thanks to the support of our community, the Brave Heart Fund has been able to cover the costs of over 3750 life-saving surgeries in just 15 years. This commitment would not have been made possible without the continuous contributions of our community and sponsors to which we and the families are eternally grateful.
Thanks to each person who reacted to this call for help, Ali's little heart was saved. He underwent a successful open heart surgery early June. Ali is back home and recovering well.
He would like thank each and everyone one who helped save his life.
