Feeling lost and don't know what all of this is about?

Who we are

Al Naqab Center is a self-organized, youth-led, grassroots community center in Burj al Barajneh Camp, which was founded in 2013 by a group of independent Palestinian and Lebanese youth in Beirut in response to the changing needs of the camp residents.

Al Naqab strives to maintain our financial independence each year. Through the determination of several committed volunteers in Lebanon and abroad, we continue to organize as an independent center putting the needs of its community first. We started this project nearly five years ago with a handful of community organizers, friends and family. Since July 2013, we have made connections across the globe: many volunteers from various countries pass through our doors to offer their support, and those that have traveled to pursue their lives outside of Lebanon always keep us in their minds. We have experienced the true meaning of solidarity. We urge you to consider making a financial contribution to support our work and help us to continue to grow.

Our annual summer program, which started in August 2013, partners with different organizations in Beirut to offer a variety of activities for the participants of our Education, Sports, Youth, and Cultural Programs during the summer months.

The Summer Program (including Center Administrator, activity facilitators, stationary, and snacks) running costs are $40 per child per month

A recreational trip outside of the camp for the participants costs $15 per child per trip

Our football program, which started in March 2015, has a team of coaches who are guiding the children to develop athletic skills. During the summer months practices are doubled to twice per week.

The football program (including field rental, head coach fees, and snacks) costs $30 per child per month.

Every few years the center is in need of a bit of maintenance in order to preserve a clean and functional environment for all the center’s activities.

The cost of the necessary maintenance work required for the center is $2000 for the whole center

Milestones

$2,250: Will allow us to cover the running costs of the center for the summer program.

$4,000: Will allow us to cover the running costs of the center and the football program during the summer months.

$7,000: Will also allow us to cover the necessary support (human resources, snacks and stationary) for the cultural activities in the summer program (in addition to the costs listed above).

$8,000: Will also allow us to cover two trips outside of the camp for the participants of the summer program.

$10,000: Will allow us to also perform necessary maintenance of the center’s facilities (paint touch ups, fixing doors, new white boards, etc.)

CAMPAIGN EXTENDED until August 20th & Summer Program started TODAY!

It has been one month since we launched our crowdfunding campaign. Since then, and thanks to the generous support of dozens of people from across the globe we have managed to raise $7,010. This is a tremendous achievement and we would like to thank all those who contributed and shared our project on social media. $7,000 will allow us to fund our running costs, cultural activity program, football program for the entire summer. We are still determined to reach our final goal of $10,000 and for that to happen we need your support.

Our funding model depends on genuine support and solidarity from people who believe in our goal of providing an open community space that offers free cultural programs and quality education support, and organizes our communities independently and at the grassroots level.

Given that we are so close to our fundraising goals we have extended the campaign for an additional 12 days in order to allow those that have not donated yet time to contribute. The campaign will now end on August 20th. We would like to thank all that have donated so far, we continue to be humbled by your support! Al Naqab’s 6th annual summer program will began TODAY with a full schedule of events.

The program is designed for 45 children living in Burj el Barajneh camp between the ages of 6-15, most of whom are enrolled in either our education program during the academic year or our football program.

There will be daily sessions where the children learn different Palestinian songs, anthems, and dances. In addition, there will be daily arts and crafts activities. And of course the most important daily sessions will be the history and geography of Palestine pre-Nakba. Specific topics include: borders, villages of Palestine, the history of the Zionist project, Palestine under Ottoman rule, the British mandate period, highlighting resistance and reactions to the creation of borders.

There were also be a series of life skills workshops: fire prevention, awareness about dangers of drugs, the importance of education and about BDS.

It is your contributions to our campaign that is making this program possible. Check our page regularly to see what youth are up to at the center!
