I, Anwar Agha, will be running in the Beirut Marathon the 21 km, for a cause i believe that is really important to me, to you, and to everyone in the medical world. These funds I will be collecting will be going to the program that will be stated below for two specific purposes.
You've heard alot of cases where patients don't have enough money to be able to enter a hospital where the staff keeps them at the door and unfortunately many of them die at the doors of the medical centers. Right? Well through this fund, you'll be able to contribute to the SHBPP program to be able to stop and reduce these cases in the AUBMC . This fund is in the purpose of helping needy patients who present to the American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC) and who cannot afford to pay for their treatment.
In addition, this run is really important as part of the proceeds will finance research dedicated to the relation between the patient and his doctor.
The Salim El-Hoss Bioethics and Professionalism Program (SHBPP) at the American University of Beirut has been a leader in promoting and enhancing humanism in medicine through the formula M= EC2 which explains its's purpose: Medicine is about Empathy, Caring, and Curing True to its mission of teaching, the SHBPP also seeks to educate and train healthcare professionals, physicians, and students on issues related to professionalism, medical humanism, and ethics in the aim of humans, that care about their patients, not robots. A new program at AUBMC, a first-of-their-kind services in Lebanon and the Arab region, offering care and support to patients and their families as well as members of the healthcare team through the decision-making process. Seeing humane medicine which is basically patient centered should be a model to spread in Lebanon and the Arab.
We will be able to spread the word together: STOP death because of money! STOP death because people lack of humanism! STOP robots, create again and again...... Humans!
