As part of my research work, I have visited various Syrian Refugee Camps and I noticed that many children don’t own any underwear. People are donating food and clothes but no one is cognizant of other basic needs like undergarments. Sanitation and cleanliness are increasingly important in refugee camps, and underwear are a necessity in maintaining proper hygiene. Wearing underwear also maintains privacy.” Diana Maddah, a Public Health Professional
Because sharing is caring, MUBS is organizing an awareness and a donation campaign under the name “Under-A-Wear” that will be held on September 17th from 10:00am-2:00 pm in Sonbola Center in Bar Elias, targeting Syrian Refugees children in Bar Elias Camp and neighboring Camps. Sonbola will be hosting the event. Dawaer NGO will be conducting awareness sessions to the refugee children stressing on the importance of wearing underwear, personal hygiene, protection from sexual abuse, and violence. MUBS Public Health and Social Work students will be involved in these awareness sessions and in various activities. Teach for Lebanon (TFL) volunteers will be preparing some educational activities. MUBS students will be distributing under garments to children and Food Blessed will be providing lunch boxes for them.
Please help us achieve our goal! A donation of 1$ can provide a Syrian Child with the basic need of hygienic safety and protection from abuse.
Because MUBS Cares... Your contribution counts!
